The 313 Series debuted in 1999, designed to align with the lines it serves and offering a diverse range of configurations, making it the face of JR Central's commuter trains in nearby areas. The 5000 series and 5300 series, based at Ogaki Train Depot, are widely active in the Chukyo region.
The interiors feature all-reclining cross seats and are equipped with inter-car dampers and semi-active devices (for the 5000 series) to enhance ride comfort during high-speed travel. The 5000 series has a 6-car formation, while the 5300 series has a 2-car formation, enabling operations of up to 8 cars in length for services like the "New Rapid."
