As we can attest, 2025 was a stellar year for anime, and winter 2026 began with new installments of Frieren and My Hero Academia. This is the year of the horse, after all, and if the wild success of Umamusume is any indication, the new anime shows for 2026 are starting at the gates as true winners.
Whether it's a long-awaited update or a delightful discovery, there are thrilling shows for every kind of fan, from romance to isekai adventure. Take a look at some of the winter 2026 anime that we’re most excited about, and make sure to cast your vote for your favorites below!

Jujutsu Kaisen: Season 3
2026 winter anime means new seasons of fan favorites we can’t wait to continue, even if that means starting with a little bit of culling. Jujutsu Kaisen starts the year with explosive action and a battle royale fight to the death.
Expect more epic fight scenes that will make the Shibuya Incident look small by comparison. What will happen to Yuji, or Choso, for that matter? We can’t quite put a finger on it, but there’s definitely something sorcerous going on.
That means there’s only one way to find out (or two, since the manga is also available!)
Hell’s Paradise: Season 2
Hell’s Paradise, or Jigokuraku, is been keeping us on the edge of our seats; we are so glad that this winter 2026, we finally get more of the anime with some of the most stunning animation we’ve seen. Season 1 of Hell’s Paradise aired back in the spring of 2023, and it’s felt like an eternity since that mind-bending cliffhanger last season.
By the end of its fantastic and fantastical first season, our flawed hero, Gabimaru, is stuck on the island Shinsenkyo, battling demons and beginning to question his own reality. Ironically, “Shinsenkyo” means “divine paradise,” but his own experiences were the opposite of idyllic. After all, it wasn’t like Gabimaru exactly wanted to be escorted around by the executioner Sagiri in a “do or die” mission.
Just as ironically, Gabimaru was searching for a mythical flower to prolong the emperor’s life, when all he wanted to do was stop living his. By the end of Season 1, he was questioning the very reality of that life.
Good thing we don’t need any special elixir to hold out any longer! Hell’s Paradise is an absolute must-watch anime for the winter of 2026.
Oshi No Ko: Season 3
Oshi No Ko continues its anime this 2026 winter with its newest season, and we are very starry-eyed about it all! Just like its first two seasons, Oshi No Ko continues the saga of the highest highs and the lowest lows of the J-Pop scene. Just like the stars of the series, this anime has a complicated background: it's part kawaii, part psychological thriller, and definitely a murder mystery tied up with a neat little baby bow (or two).
Here, we continue to unravel the mystery behind Ai Hoshino, a murdered pop star and mother of twins who themselves are more than who they appear to be. That’s because twins Aquamarine or “Acqua,” and twin Ruby, are not just her children, but also reincarnated fans who hold clues to the suspicious actions that led to her murder. Oh, and they also happen to be major singers and actors, respectively!
What happens next in this new winter anime installation for 2026 is a series of plot twists, with plenty of twisted emotions and motives along the way.
Sentenced to Be a Hero
Old classics and updates to your favorites are never “out,” but what if you’re looking for more “in with the new” for the new year? Winter 2026’s lineup of anime debuts is exhilarating, and one that comes to mind is “Sentenced to Be a Hero: The Prison Records of Penal Hero Unit 9004.”
Xylo Forbatz, the literal hero of this story, isn’t just any begrudging hero. Like Gabimaru, he has this annoying habit of continuing to survive when he’d rather not. Unlike Gabimaru, his immortality isn’t in question: Xylo was forced to become immortal because he, well, technically killed an immortal being, and must spend an eternity atoning for it.
As the audience, and as fans of Japanese RPGs, we know that the power of friendship is the best power there is when it comes to killing gods, but not without something mind-blowing happening along the way. Discover Xylo’s own epic journey and who he meets along the way, with this anime, new to winter 2026!
Hana-Kimi
Romcom fans, rejoice! If you’re looking to stay warm in the winter with a new anime that’s all about love, then 2026 is totally your year. Hana Kimi is a cute shojo story about a fan named Ashiya Mizuki who falls head over heels for a track star named Sano Izumi. She might say she’s in it for the long run herself: she disguises herself as a boy to attend his all-boys school!
Get ready to laugh while leaning into the awkwardness of high school romance, and plenty of plays on words that show that love can bloom all around, anywhere in the world, and at any time.
