Introducing Lugia GX and SM8, Super-Burst Impact!

The bags are packed for Johto as the latest Pokémon TCG expansion takes you back to one of the most popular regions in the franchise! SM8 is the brand-new core 99+ card expansion ready to cause a Super-Burst Impact amongst excited players and diehard collectors alike.
Released on September 7th, and available to order from Plaza Japan now, a trip to Johto will reignite the nostalgia of Gold and Silver, but it could never be complete without its iconic Legendary 'Beast of the Sea' - Lugia GX.
Lugia stands strong in the Pokémon franchise as one of the most popular legendary Pokémon of all time. Having first appeared in the second ever Pokémon movie "Pokémon 2000", Lugia is set to feature again in this year’s
instalment "Everyone's Story", and you could say
that Lugia has had some involvement in everyone's Pokémon story,
rising again 18 years later and ready to do battle in the TCG.
SM8 is a Johto-themed set through and through, and whether your best memory of the second generation was collecting your Totodile from Professor Elm or finally taking down Whitney's Miltank, it's all here in Super-Burst Impact. So, what other Johto favourites have made the GX roster this time? Well, being a new core set, we're treated to five new GX Pokémon as Lugia is joined by the pseudo-legendary Tyranitar GX, the neglected no-longer Suicune GX , cult-favourite Shuckle GX and Alola's final Ultrabeast, Blacephalon GX. A distinct selection of Johto's best-loved Pokémon to be found and we can't wait to see what Suicune will look like in "SR" and "HR" form! Will you be one of the lucky ones to find out first?The almighty Lugia GX will not be fazed by any opponent. It's GX attack "Lost Purge GX" puts your opponent’s active Pokémon and all cards attached to it into their Lost Zone no matter who it's facing. A truly devastating blow if the defending Pokémon has a mass of Energies and a Tool attached too!
We never know for certain if Prism Star cards will be included in a new set, but we're happy to say they're here in SM8 with three unique additions in the form of one Pokémon, one Supporter and a
nother Stadium Card. Keeping it Johto, Prism Star Celebi has arrived in Super-Burst Impact in time-travelling style with its Grass-type abilities, and you
might just recognise this next Supporter! A rather malevolent-looking Lusamine seems to get everywhere, doesn't she? Having already appeared as two different Full Art Supporters, she's back again as a Prism Star and has the ability to protect your Ultrabeasts! Would we expect anything else from this moody and mysterious lady? The Stadium Card Heat Factory is the final piece of this impressive trio, allowing you to discard Fire energy to draw more cards!
Moving on to Trainer Cards, your guess is as good as ours when it comes to working out which Items will be Secret Rare. Core expansions of the Pokémon TCG typically have three "SR" Items, and with SM8 introducing six new cards, it's anyone's to predict! The six new Items in the frame for the golden touch are Stall Hammer, Moomoo Milk, Lost Mixer , Choice Helmet, Fairy Charm (Grass) and the Memory Energy. We're hoping to pull some golden Moomoo Milk, but who knows!
The Supporter cards in Super-Burst Impact are less of a guessing game, but instead something to be marvelled at. The "SR" or "Full Art" Supporters are always highly anticipated in any set, and we already have confirmation that two of the three new Supporters will be in the set as “SR”! We did mention earlier in the article that perhaps your best Johto memory would be collecting your starter Pokémon from Professor Elm, or facing off against Whitney? Well, they're both here and they're both “Full Art”! Professor Elm's Lecture in particular looks exceptional, with the artwork featuring all three starters - Chikorita, Cyndaquil and Totodile! The final Supporter, who has not yet been confirmed as “SR”, is Aether Paradise's Faba. Though with the core expansions usually featuring three “SR” Supporters, we wouldn't be surprised to see Faba joining the party with Professor Elm and Whitney!
It's easy to say that the journey back to Johto with Super-Burst Impact will be spectacular, and Plaza Japan are here to ensure that you won't need the Silver Wing for an encounter with Lugia! SM8 is combining some real fan-favourites such as Suicune and Whitney with some seriously powerful cards like Prism Star Celebi and Lusamine!
