Frequently Asked Questions

Are Kotobukiya Metal Gear Solid figures hard to build?

The level of difficulty depends on your personal experience and whether you want to do any customization. They require assembly, but they’re well-engineered and designed to go together cleanly. Most parts are snap-fit so glue isn’t strictly necessary for assembly. That said, some builders do like to add paint and panel lining for extra detail. The REX and RAY kits are a reasonable entry point, while the larger Sahelanthropus is a bigger challenge because of its size.

What character figures come with the Metal Gear model kits?

This is one of the best parts of Kotobukiya's Metal Gear merch range. Each kit includes scale character figures. The standard REX kit comes with Solid Snake, Liquid Snake, and two Cyborg Ninja Metal Gear collectibles. The RAY kit includes Old Snake, Liquid Ocelot, and Haven Trooper Metal Gear Solid figures.

What is the difference between the standard and Black Ver. model kits?

The Black Ver. kits are molded in black plastic instead of the standard color scheme. The sculpt is identical otherwise, with the only difference being the base color (which is aimed at modelers who want to paint the kit themselves)

How big are the Metal Gear model kits when built?

It depends on the Metal Gear Solid figure you’re considering. The 1/100 scale REX stands around 220mm tall once assembled, while the larger Sahelanthropus can reach roughly 355mm. Both will give your shelf or desk some serious presence.
