The TORA 40000 series was introduced in 1960 as a two-axle open wagon designed for transporting bulk cargo. It was used throughout Japan until yard transport was discontinued in 1984.
Characterized by its tall end plates, this wagon carried a wide variety of cargo, including quarry stone, coal, gas cylinders, small containers, and cable reels.
