The HOKI 800 series was introduced as an improved version of the HOKI 700, adding the ability to spread ballast along the track. It has played an active role in ballast transport and spreading throughout Japan. These vehicles are now being replaced by maintenance motor cars and service vehicles.

- Ownership marking is pre-printed as Taka and can be changed to Higashi-Oku, Hachi-Tota, Chiba-Mari, or Shin-Naka using the included transfer sheets.
- Separate parts represent handrails and handles.
- Reflectors are included.
- Uses black wheels.
