The MOHA 72 series, developed from MOHA 63 series cars converted into intermediate cars, initially included both odd-numbered and even-numbered orientations, similar to the KUMOHA 73 series. From number 200 onward, all trains were standardized to odd-numbered orientation.
Originally deployed on heavily congested commuter lines in the Tokyo metropolitan area, most cars that were not modernized were retired by around 1970.
