The MANI 37 type was a baggage car designed for pallet transport. As a baggage car belonging to the older passenger car category, it was the only one to wear the blue No. 15 paint scheme, with some exceptions for the MANI 36 type.
The MANI 37 series 200 cars were modified for coupling with 14-series passenger cars used on the express trains Aso and Unzen/Saikai, and were fitted with additional axle generators and battery boxes.
