Overview
The EF81 series electric locomotives were introduced in 1968 as locomotives compatible with both DC and AC 50/60 Hz, becoming a standard AC/DC locomotive type. The EF81 locomotives at the Nagaoka train yard hauled the Hokuriku sleeper express between Nagaoka and Kanazawa and were also used for freight service.
