Overview

The 223 series 2500 series is a train for the Hanwa Line developed from the 2000 series, originally used for Special Rapid Service on the Tokaido and Sanyo Main Lines. The 2500 series was introduced mainly as the third batch in 2008 to standardize Hanwa Line operations by changing conventional 5-car and 3-car formations into 4-car formations.

These trains are notable for being produced both as formations composed entirely of 2500 series cars and as mixed formations combining 2500 series cars with Saha 223 series 0 cars created through reconfiguration. From 2022, sets made entirely of 2500 series cars were transferred to the Suita General Rolling Stock Center Kyoto Branch and redeployed to the Sagano Line, Kosei Line, and Kusatsu Line.

- Headlights, taillights, and front display are fitted with a constant lighting circuit board and an ON-OFF switch.

- Headlights, taillights, and front display illuminated by white LEDs.

- Headlight illumination function lights regardless of direction of travel when two leading cars are connected.

- Driver cab side of the leading car is equipped with a TN coupler (SP) with a small body mount.

- New current collection system and silver wheels included.
