The 485 series 1000 series, introduced in 1976, featured an enhanced cold-weather and snow-resistant structure for reliable operation in the Tohoku region. During the JNR era it ran as a 12-car set that included a dining car and was mainly used on the Ou Main Line for the limited express trains Tsubasa and Yamabato. This high-grade HG add-on set faithfully reproduces the 485 series 1000 series from the JNR era.
