227 series 500 series "Kizashi" — JR West Yamaguchi Area DC Electric Train model
Overview
The 227 series 500 series "Kizashi" is a new train type developed for the Yamaguchi area and operated by JR West. It entered service in June 2026 and is mainly used on the Sanyo Line between Iwakuni and Shimonoseki. As of July 2026, six 3-car sets and three 2-car sets have been introduced.
Key features
- Front styling similar to the 227 series Red Wing and the 227 series 500 series Urara
- Interchangeable front display section with pre-printed parts installed; replacement display parts included
- Anti-fall bellows on leading cars supplied as separate parts, with two types included: one for when the car is leading and one for when cars are coupled
- "Kizashi" logo and JR mark pre-printed
- Selectable car numbers compatible with transfer sheets included in the basic set
- Headlights and taillights use white LEDs; fog lights reproduced with a color prism for orange illumination
- Headlights, taillights, and front display equipped with a constant lighting circuit board and an ON/OFF switch
- Driver cab side of the leading car equipped with a TN coupler (SP)
- New current collection system and silver wheels
