The 227 series 500 series Kizashi is a new DC electric train developed for the Yamaguchi area and operated by JR West. It entered service in June 2026 and is primarily used on the Sanyo Line between Iwakuni and Shimonoseki. As of July 2026, six 3-car train sets and three 2-car train sets have been introduced.
Key features
- Front shape resembles the 227 series Red Wing and the 227 series 500 series Urara.
- Front display section is interchangeable with pre-printed parts installed; replacement parts are included.
- Anti-fall bellows on the leading cars are separate parts. Two types are included: one for when the car is leading and one for when it is coupled.
- Kizashi logo and JR mark are pre-printed.
- Car numbers are selectable and compatible with transfer sheets included in the basic set.
- Headlights and taillights use white LEDs; fog lights use a color prism to reproduce orange illumination.
- Headlights, taillights, and front display are fitted with a constant lighting circuit board and an ON/OFF switch.
- The driver’s cab side of the leading car is equipped with a TN coupler (SP).
- New current collection system and silver wheels are used.
