The series 153 was an electric train developed for semi-express and express services, mainly used on the Tokaido and Sanyo Main Lines and in the Boso area.
Trains based at Tamachi Depot were used on the express Izu and on local services. They were replaced by the series 185 in 1981, and during the transition both series were sometimes coupled and operated together.
Some SALO 165 cars were later modified with unit sash windows.
- High Grade (HG) specifications
- The KUHA 153 features a newly manufactured front. The gangway plate can be selected as small or large.
- This 7-car set includes KUHA 153, MOHA 152, MOHA 153 and SALO 165. With this product alone you can recreate Boso area express trains. Combined with 97613 and 97614 you can recreate the 15-car express Izu.
- The SALO 165 is a newly manufactured air-conditioned car.
- The SALO 165 reproduces the car with a single-pane drop-down window and without the green stripe. The appearance before the stripe removal can be recreated using the class stripe included on the transfer sheet.
- The series 153 reproduced is the air-conditioned modified version.
- MOHA 152 and MOHA 153 reproduce the early type with windows on both sides of the cab end.
- The leading car reproduces a low-cab car with a large front window.

- Headmarks: pre-printed parts for Sotobo, Uchibo, Inubo, Kashima, Suigo.
- Toilet drain pipes are pre-installed.

- Headlights, taillights, and front display are fitted with a constant lighting circuit board and an on/off switch.
- Front display illuminates in a near-white color.
- KUHA 153 odd-numbered cars include the front jumper cable as a separate part.
- Front cars are fitted with a TN coupler (SP) with a narrow opening as standard.
- Intermediate cars are fitted with a TN coupler (SP) with piping as standard.
- New current collection system and black wheels.
- Equipped with a flywheel motor and an M-13 motor.
