The KIHA 40 series is a versatile diesel railcar that debuted in 1977. The Donan Isaribi Railway opened on March 26, 2016, coinciding with the opening of the Hokkaido Shinkansen. KIHA 40 series car 1798 was repainted in the express train livery, and car 1807 was repainted in the Tokyo metropolitan area livery.
