About the Actual Aircraft

The F/A-18E/F Super Hornet was developed as an advanced version of the F/A-18C/D Hornet, with deployment starting in 1999. Compared to the C/D model, the airframe is enlarged, and fuel tank capacity is increased, extending its range. It is powered by two F414-GE400 turbofan engines. The armament includes a 20mm M61A1 Vulcan cannon alongside the larger airframe, which features 11 additional hard points that can accommodate air-to-air missiles like the AIM-120A and air-to-ground missiles like the AGM-65E, as well as bombs. The Super Hornet can carry nearly all the armaments operated by the United States and is celebrated as a versatile multi-role aircraft. The U.S. Navy's VFA-27 strike fighter squadron, established in 1967, has operated the F/A-18E since 2004, deploying it at Iwakuni Air Base in Japan.
