The Consolidated B-24 Liberator was an American heavy bomber that served across European and Pacific theaters in World War II. Developed by Consolidated Aircraft and entering service from 1941, the B-24 combined a high straight Davis wing and a deep fuselage to deliver long range and large bomb capacity. Its versatility made it valuable as a bomber, transport, and patrol aircraft. Nearly 20,000 B-24s of all types were produced, with the B-24J becoming the main late production variant at about 6,600 built. The J type used four Pratt & Whitney R-1830-65 engines and featured a roll-up shutter style bomb bay door.
