About the ship
The USS North Carolina (BB-55) was commissioned in 1941. Early service was delayed by repairs and modifications, earning her the nickname "Showboat." After entering active service she was assigned to the Atlantic Fleet and from 1942 served in the Pacific theater, taking part in actions in the Solomon Islands and the Marianas.
Specifications: length 222.11 m, standard displacement 36,600 tons, main armament nine 40.6 cm/45 caliber guns. Two ships of the class were built, including USS Washington, and both were active throughout World War II.
