About the Real Aircraft

The JAS 39 Gripen is a multi-role fighter jet operated by the Swedish Air Force since 1996. Developed by Saab, it was intended as the successor to the Saab 37 Viggen, with development starting in 1980. It maintains the delta wing design with canard surfaces, a hallmark of its predecessor, the Viggen. The aircraft is powered by a single RM12 turbofan engine, an improved version of the American General Electric F404-GE-400 by Volvo Aero of Sweden. It is equipped with a BK-27 27mm cannon as its fixed armament and can carry various missiles. The prototype's first flight was in 1988, and it began to enter service in 1996. Continuous improvements have led to various versions, and the Gripen, known for its compactness, lightweight, and ease of maintenance, is used by air forces not only in Sweden but also in Hungary, the Czech Republic, and other countries.
