About the ship
USS Iowa entered service in 1943 as the lead ship of the Iowa-class battleships.
Six were planned and four were built; Iowa had a standard displacement of 48,500 tons and reached a length of about 270 m.
In 1944 she served as flagship of the Seventh Fleet in the Pacific Theater and saw action against the Imperial Japanese Navy.
After World War II she served in the Korean War and was modernized with missile systems, being reactivated multiple times to operate around the world.
Decommissioned in 2006, she was moved to Los Angeles and preserved as a museum ship.
