The 103 series is a DC commuter electric train introduced in 1963 during the JNR era; it entered service on the Joban Line in 1967 and mainly operated on the rapid tracks between Ueno Station and Toride Station, and after being gradually replaced by newer models such as the E231 series, regular service ended on March 17, 2006.
