This Waterline series kit has been redesigned for greater accuracy. New fittings were researched and engineered, and numerous slide molds were added to faithfully reproduce the fine detail of 1/700 scale. The series has been reborn with higher precision for collectors and modelers.

Historical background

Chiyoda was built under the 1934 naval rearmament plan as a seaplane tender. In 1940 she was converted into a midget submarine mother ship, and after the loss of major fleet carriers at Midway she was converted into an aircraft carrier in 1943. At her combat debut in the Battle of the Philippine Sea she served in the Third Fleet, Third Air Flotilla and operated Mitsubishi A6M Zero fighters fitted with 250 kg bombs in a bomber role. In 1944 she participated alongside her sister ship Chitose in major engagements including the Battle of Leyte Gulf and the Battle off Cape Engaño as part of Ozawa’s Mobile Force. After being disabled by US carrier aircraft she was located by cruiser forces and sunk.
