The EF60 500 series appeared in 1963 as a replacement for the traction machine due to the increase in the formation of the 20 series Blue Train that had been towed by the EF58. The blue body + cream color on the front and the style of the side band have become the standard paint color of the new electric locomotive that will be inherited by the later EF65. In addition to the sleeper limited express "Asakaze", it is active mainly in the "Sakura" connected to the power supply car Crab 22, and is indispensable for talking about the history of the Tokaido Blue Train.
