Two MAITE 49 cars were introduced in 1938 as the SUITE 37040 type. Initially, it was used for the limited express "Fuji", and the title was revised repeatedly and became MAITE 49 after passing through SUITE 49. It was scrapped once in 1961 and was displayed and preserved at the Osaka Museum of Transportation Science, but it was renovated and revived in 1987. After being inherited by JR West, it was operated as an event train in various places along with general passenger cars OHAFU 33 and OHA 46. It was stored at the Kyoto Railway Museum on October 11, 2022, and is currently on display together with OHA 46.
This is a passenger car set that allows you to enjoy JR West's event trains, and the MAITE 49 reproduces the appearance of the air conditioner that was updated during the restoration maintenance and the handrails of the observation deck that was added.
