Composite sleepers are high-durability, lightweight railway sleepers made from rigid polyurethane foam (a type of plastic) and glass fiber. They offer workability equivalent to wood, resist rot, are lighter than concrete, and boast a service life of over 30 years. Compared with concrete sleepers used on regular track, composite sleepers are adopted where especially high durability and ease of installation are required, such as turnouts and bridges.
A compact DC-type point machine is housed neatly within the roadbed for a realistic appearance and flexible track planning. The product follows the Unitrack standard, making it easy for beginners to use and suitable for expanding the layout plan of the M1-PC track set.
Option Parts
- Reproduces PC (concrete) sleepers that became common from the 1950s onward, suitable for enjoying everything from conventional mainline trains to Shinkansen.
- The ballast surface is lower than that of double-track rails to emphasize three-dimensionality. You can further customize the track appearance by sprinkling separately sold ballast such as 24-039.
- The PC curved track R718-15° is supplied with no cant (no superelevation) and is fully compatible with existing wood-sleeper track.
- Uses uni joiners for reliable electrical contact and solid coupling.
- Used when installing island platforms with the motorized turnout No. 6.
