Composite sleepers are high durability, lightweight railway sleepers made from rigid foam polyurethane reinforced with glass fiber. They offer the same workability as wood without rotting, are lighter than concrete, and provide a service life of over 30 years. Compared with concrete sleepers used on standard track, composite sleepers are adopted in locations requiring especially high durability and ease of installation, such as turnouts and bridges.
