Kato 10-2040 Series 165 345M Ogaki Night Train 4 Cars Add-On Set (N scale)

The Ogaki Night Train originated in October 1968 when night ordinary services were reorganized following increased Shinkansen services. The iconic sleeper coach service that once ran between Tokyo and Osaka was shortened to Tokyo Ogaki and electrified. Initially operated by series 153 trains from the Ogaki depot, the formation later used mixed 155 and series 159 before being standardized to the series 165 in 1982. Although a local ordinary train, it retained night train characteristics and served as the last commuter service from the Tokyo suburbs and as a convenient connection toward Kansai for travelers. The paired two car green car set shared with express Tokai was particularly popular. The service continued after JNR privatization with series 165 operation until March 1996, later becoming the rapid Moonlight Nagara operated by JR Central series 373 and then seasonal from 2009. Rolling stock evolved to JR East series 183, 189, and 185 and the service officially ended in 2021.
