Over the years, it has expanded its operational range, adapting to the advent of the Kyushu Shinkansen and West Kyushu Shinkansen, and continues to be active today. In 2020, the "36 plus 3" train emerged, spotlighting the Series 787 as a Design & Story (D&S) train touring the seven prefectures of Kyushu.
