JR East Senseki Line connects Sendai and Ishinomaki. With roots in the Miyagi Electric Railway, it is a rare DC electrified conventional JR line in the Tohoku area. Until recently it operated shortened commuter trains that had served the Tokyo metropolitan area such as the 103 and 205 series. From 2025 the E131 series 800 subseries was introduced as a newly built train for the first time in about 80 years. The Senseki Line E131 series 800 subseries features a non-gangway front end and roof-mounted ATACS antennas.
