THE ROYAL EXPRESS is a cruise train introduced in 2017 that links the Tokyo metropolitan area with the Izu Peninsula. It was created by converting the Izu Kyuko 2100 series Alpha Resort 21. The exterior features a metallic royal blue base with gold bands and logos, while the interior uses warm natural materials and abundant glass to create a nostalgic yet fresh classic space that delivers a journey of beauty and sparkle. It normally operates between Yokohama and Izukyū-Shimoda and is organized by Tokyu with operations handled by the companies in the running area. Since 2020, operations have expanded seasonally to include Hokkaido, Shikoku and Tokai areas; for Hokkaido and Shikoku runs the train is shortened to a five-car set by removing cars 2, 3 and 7. Some services also operate as a six-car, locomotive-hauled set with a power supply car. Unlike other cruise trains, this train does not include onboard accommodation.
KATO adds a new lineup to the KATO Cruise Train series with a finely detailed model of the Izu Kyuko 2100 series featuring a beautiful metallic royal blue body. This product reproduces the eight-car electric multiple unit formation. It pairs well with other models active on the Tokaido Main Line and Izu Kyuko Line such as product numbers 10-1661S / 1662 E261 series Saphir Odoriko.
