The JR West limited express Mahoroba connects Osaka and Nara. Formerly operated as an occasional service with changing rolling stock, routes, and stops, Mahoroba became a regular scheduled service from March 2025. Dedicated 3-car trains were created by renewing series 683-2000 sets into the series 6000. The first set, Annei, introduced in April, features a gold color representing abundant life and harvest and a suou color derived from ancient dyes brought from the continent. The second set, Yukyuu, introduced in October, uses sumi and haishibui colors with a gradient to evoke the aged depth of Buddhist statues and to express cultural continuity.
