It has been 60 years since THE BEATLES' first visit to Japan, which had a great influence on Japanese pop culture. On June 29, 1966, despite the late hour, Haneda Airport was packed with many fans and reporters who enthusiastically welcomed the four members. The concert venue was the sacred martial-arts hall, Nippon Budokan. Five performances were held over three days, and it was the first time a rock concert was held at the Budokan. From the scene of them descending the stairs wearing JAL happi coats to the concert, everything was televised, and although their stay was less than 100 hours, the Beatles' popularity swept across Japan and is still remembered as a social phenomenon.
