Sikorsky SH-3H Sea King - U.S. Navy Anti-Submarine Warfare Helicopter
The Sikorsky SH-3H Sea King is a U.S. Navy anti-submarine warfare helicopter. Developed as the successor to the HSS-1, it is a large twin-turbine helicopter designed for carrier operations and maritime missions. The five main rotor blades fold automatically for shipboard storage, and the tail boom features a folding mechanism. The fuselage uses a watertight boat hull semi-monocoque design combined with auxiliary floats for excellent sea landing capability. Powered by two parallel T-58 turboshaft engines, the SH-3H delivers high output and improved safety in the event of an engine failure. Anti-submarine equipment includes MAD sensors and sonobuoys. In addition to ASW roles, the Sea King is for search and rescue during carrier flight operations and for transport, making it a versatile multi-role helicopter.
