In the 1980s, surplus KiHa 58 series diesel railcars were converted into “Joyful Train” excursion vehicles across Japan. Following the popularity of a tatami-style diesel train introduced by the Akita Railway Bureau in 1984, a new western-style train named “Elegance Akky” was created. It featured a cream body with bold red and vermilion stripes, and continued to serve group and temporary trains in the Akita area after the privatization of JNR.
The model represents the train in its JR-era appearance, including working headlights, tail lights, destination signs, illuminated front name displays, recreated interior seating, covered former air-conditioner sections, and the different window styles of the KiRo 59 and KiRo 29 cars.
