The Murasame ship is a third-generation general-purpose gas turbine propulsion destroyer following the Hatsuki type and Asagiri type, and 9 vessels were built by 2002. The first ship, "Murasame," was completed in March 1996, and dispatched to the Indian Ocean based on the new Act on Special Measures against Terrorism, and conducted overseas activities such as fleet escort off Somalia as a countermeasure against piracy. Currently, it belongs to the 1st Escort Group of the 1st Escort Group in Yokosuka.
