The Mamiya, completed in 1924, was the first full-fledged large-scale food supply ship of the Imperial Japanese Navy with fleet escort capabilities. Equipped with refrigeration and freezing facilities, it was capable of storing fresh food, processing meat, and even manufacturing luxury goods such as ice cream and yokan (sweet bean jelly). As a vital, behind-the-scenes force supporting the fleet, it operated tirelessly from before the war through the war, continuously providing for the crew's dietary needs.
