Vehicle history
Italy deployed the medium tank Carro Armato and the assault gun Semovente during World War II.
The Carro Armato was Italy’s first full-scale medium tank, formalized in 1939 and developed almost simultaneously as an improved M11/39.
Development shortened by enlarging the M11/39 chassis and reusing suspension components, then fitting a fully rotating turret with a 47 mm tank gun.
Formalized as the M13/40 in 1940, and upgraded in 1941 with a higher power engine as the M14/41.
The Semovente was developed by removing the rotating turret and installing a fixed fighting compartment with an 18-caliber 75 mm howitzer, the da 75/18.
Vehicles based on the M13/40 hull were designated M40 da 75/18, and those using the M14/41 hull were designated M41 da 75/18.
These low-profile vehicles excelled at ambush, fire support, and anti-tank roles and are considered among the most successful Italian armored vehicles of World War II.

About the real vehicles
During World War II Italy deployed the medium tank known as the Carro Armato and the Semovente assault gun derived from its chassis. The Carro Armato began formal service in 1939 as Italy's first true medium tank, developed as an improved version of the M11/39.
