Pokemon GO's 2022 Winter Holiday Event Has Begun!

Dec 16, 2022

You can always count on Niantic to bless us with a winter holiday themed Pikachu wearing a festive hat once the holiday season comes around! We’re now midway through December and The Pokémon GO team has finally announced part one of a two part winter holiday event in the game! The event starts on December 15th and will continue until the 23rd. Let’s look at what we can expect from the event:

One of the main features of the event is the debut of Mega Glalie in Pokémon GO in Mega Raids! Lucky trainers may even encounter a shiny one if they’re lucky! Frost Breath and Avalanche are the strongest movesets for Glalie and it has a Max CP of 3,229.

Trainers will be able to receive 50% more XP when they win in Raid Battles and will be able to store up to 40 Gifts! Players who are happy to pay $5 will be able to access event-exclusive Timed Research. Rewards include an event-themed avatar pose, two Incubators, one incense, Abomasnow Mega Energy, and various event-themed Pokémon encounters.

One of the most exciting part of any Pokémon Go event is seeing the different kinds of Pokémon appear when out! For part one of the winter holiday event, trainers can expect to see more wild encounters of the following Pokémon:
Pikachu wearing a Winter Carnival outfit, Swinub, Delibird, Snorunt, Spheal wearing a holiday outfit, Snover, Vanillite, Cubchoo, Bergmite, (and if you’re lucky!) Alolan Vulpix, Stantler wearing a holiday outfit, and Cryogonal.

The weather outside is frightful, but watching these Pokémon hatch from 7 km eggs is so delightful!:
Sneasel, Smoochum, Amaura, Bergmite, and Crabrawler.

Snowball fights are in spirit but raids with these Pokémon are far more enjoyable!:
One-Star Raids: Pikachu wearing a Winter Carnival outfit, Alolan Vulpix, Spheal wearing a holiday outfit, Galarian Darumaka, Bergmite.

Three-Star Raids: Cloyster, Lapras, Stantler wearing a holiday outfit, Glaceon wearing an Undersea Holiday outfit.

Five-Star Raids: Cobalion.

Mega Raids: Mega Glalie.

Cobalion will be the sharpest Pokémon to make your fighter as the ones caught during the event will know the attack Sacred Sword! Sacred Sword is a fighting type charge move that has a base power of 55 for PvE battles and 60 for PVP battles.
Get out in the field for some research because you won't want to miss these Pokémon encounters!:
Pikachu wearing a Winter Carnival outfit, Alolan Vulpix, Seel, Shellder, Jynx, Stantler wearing a holiday outfit, Spheal wearing a holiday outfit, Crabrawler, (and if you’re lucky!) Sneasel, and Glaceon wearing an Undersea Holiday outfit.

You’ll also be able to earn Mega Energy for Abomasnow when competing certain field research tasks. You'll need Mega Energy if you'll want to Abomasnow into Mega Abomasnow!

Purchasable in game Avatar items will be available and event-themed stickers can be obtained by spinning PokeStops, opening Gifts, and purchasing them from the in-game shop!
Here’s what will be available:
Holiday Pajama Top, Holiday Pajama Bottoms, Holiday Pajama Slippers, Gifting Pose, Holiday Hat, Holiday Suit, and Holiday Beard.

This concludes the event details for just part one of Pokémon Go’s Winter Holiday event! We’re curious about what could possibly come with their part two they have planned...
