The 489 series limited express train is based on the 485 series limited express train, and is equipped with a cooperative driving device with the EF63 electric locomotive because it passes through the steep slope section between Yokokawa and Karuizawa on the Shin-Etsu Main Line.
Around 1989 after the privatization of JNR, it was renewed to Hakusan color of oyster white, rosy, light ultramarine blue, and light cobalt blue.
The limited express "Hakusan" was operated until the opening of the Nagano Shinkansen in 1997.
- The leading car has headlights, taillights, and headmarks.
- The head mark of "Hakusan" is already installed.
- Comes with replacement head marks for "Asama", "Noto", and "Hakutaka".
- The skirt of Kuha 489-505 can be replaced with the attached skirt parts for connection.
- The electroscope antenna, train radio antenna, and telephone antenna are included as separate user-installed parts.
- The minimum mileage is R95 (R195 when the leading car is connected).
- A009 (intermediate car) and A030 (leading car) are compatible with interior lights. A059 is compatible with the DCC decoder.
